The World Sees Decentralized Storage’s Potential

Welcome to the Filecoin Foundation newsletter, where we cover big ideas and news about the Filecoin ecosystem and the decentralized web. Today’s edition focuses on the recently-released IDC cloud storage report.

The Big File

Global market intelligence firm IDC recently published “Why Decentralized Storage Based on Web3 Technology Will Ultimately Replace Many Public Cloud-Based Storage Services.” The report explores how decentralized storage can replace many cloud-based options and notes the Filecoin network’s status as the largest Web3-based storage provider, hosting over 200PiB of data – a number that continues to grow.

💾 Use cases: The report spotlights many use cases and ideas for building on the Filecoin network, from examples involving research institutions, to digital archives, to healthcare, as well as other verticals that require enterprise-grade storage capacity.

🏛️ Superior accountability: IDC also showcases Web3’s advantages over Web2 cloud storage technology, including “better security, data integrity, data resiliency.”.

💸 Cost savings: Last, the report highlights the affordability of storing data on the Filecoin network – “up to 95% less than the cost of today’s hyper scaler-based Web2 public clouds.”
